Mastodons Fall in #HLMBB Semifinals to Northern Kentucky

INDIANAPOLIS – The Mastodons' March Madness dreams will have to wait until next year. No. 2 Purdue Fort Wayne fell 57-43 to No. 3 Northern Kentucky in the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship Semifinals at the Indiana Farmers Coliseum on Monday (March 7) evening.
The loss also snaps a 10-game win streak for the 'Dons.
NKU led 19-9 with over eight minutes to play in the first half. The 'Dons cut the Northern Kentucky lead to 25-19 by half thanks to baskets from Damian Chong Qui, Ra Kpedi, Jarred Godfrey and Johnathan DeJurnett.
In the second half, the 'Dons shrunk the Norse lead to 27-22 after Chong Qui hit a 3-pointer with 17:57 to play. However, the Norse went on a 15-4 run from the 16:55 mark to the 11:34 mark to take a 42-26 lead.
The 'Dons stayed in it with their defense, forcing 16 turnovers and limiting the Norse to 39.3 percent shooting. But the 'Dons shot 28.8 percent on the night.
Godfrey led the 'Dons with 11 points. He also added six rebounds and four assists. Kpedi led the 'Dons in rebounds with seven. He also added nine points.
Marques Warrick had a game-high 19 points for the Norse.
With the loss, the Mastodons drop to 21-11. Northern Kentucky improves to 20-11 and will play No. 4 Wright State on Tuesday.
The Mastodons will await word of postseason opportunities.
