FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball head coach Steve Florio announced the final additions to the 2022 recruiting class on Tuesday (May 10). Savanna Rogers (Carmel, Indiana / Carmel High School), Emma Mirabelli (Traverse City, Michigan / Traverse City Christian School) and LonDynn Betts (Fort Wayne, Indiana / Concordia Lutheran High School) have signed with the Mastodons for the 2022 season.
"I am very happy to announce three new additions for this fall," Florio said. "This group balances our 2022 class, which already includes a heavy amount of offense with fantastic ball control and some additional offense, making this class very deep and complete. All three of these newly added players match our healthy team culture and our goal of being a highly competitive team. I am thrilled to welcome all three."
Rogers is a 5-foot-8 setter/defensive specialist that earned two letters at Carmel High School under head coach Kristin Deem. She played club volleyball with the Vision Volleyball Club for two years, the Academy Volleyball Club for three years, and Team Indiana Volleyball Club for one year. While playing club volleyball, she won the Central Zone in Indianapolis and won the qualifier in Dallas.
"Savanna is a complete volleyball player capable of playing any position and executing all skills," Florio said. "Her versatility, high volleyball IQ, and savvy court presence will make us better in practice and matches. She is a charismatic player who creates a competitive and fun environment and gets her teammates excited about working hard. She will provide immediate depth in setting and defense."
Mirabelli is a 5-foot-9 pin hitter that will join her sister Molly on the Mastodon women's volleyball team. Mirabelli's career-best of 44 kills in a four-set match is a record in the state of Michigan. She is the owner of over 2,000 career kills and is ninth in the state of Michigan's history. Mirabelli was a four-time All-State, All-Region and All-Conference member and a four-time Dream Team selection. She played club volleyball with FarOut Black for five years.
"Emma is a wonderful person who will be a top notch student and a fantastic teammate," Florio said. "With great hand contact and a heavy arm, Emma has the ability to be a point scorer from either pin. She has an extremely positive attitude and a strong work ethic which will help her adjust to our level very quickly."
Betts is a local 5-foot-5 libero and defensive specialist that played four seasons under head coach Trish Miller at Concordia Lutheran. She recorded 1,715 digs in her four years with the Cadets, averaging 4.8 per set. She also notched 276 aces. Betts was a two-time All-State selection, a four-time All-Summit Athletic Conference pick, and a two-time All-District honoree. In 2020, she was an All-Northeast Indiana selection. Betts played club ball with Pineapple Volleyball (2013), Summit Volleyball (2014, 2016-21), Fort Wayne Volleyball Club (2015) and Munciana Volleyball Club (2021-22). With Munciana, Betts led her team to a Mid-Eastern Power League title and a Triple Crowne championship. In addition to her athletics, Betts was involved in student council, the Sources of Strength and Social Justice clubs, and was a volunteer for the Rosa Gillespie Foundation.
"LonDynn is a driven and fierce competitor with an incredibly strong work ethic," Florio said. "Since she is a local standout, I've had the opportunity to see her reach new levels of play with every goal she sets for herself. Her enthusiasm for high achievement can influence the mood on the court and among her team in a positive and exciting way. She is an exceptional athlete with great strength and quickness, and will immediately bolster our ball control and defense."
Rogers, Mirabelli and Betts will join four Mastodons as new additions for the 2022 season: Iris Riegel, Jena Medearis, Taya Haffner and Panna Ratkai.
