FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Horizon League announced the 2022-23 men's basketball schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 16). The Mastodons will look to defend their regular season title from last year with a slate of 20 league games, playing each team in the league twice. Jarred Godfrey, on pace to become the program's all-time leading scorer, will lead an experienced Mastodon squad in 2022-23.
The first two Horizon League games of the season are set for Dec. 1 against Detroit Mercy and Dec. 3 against Oakland. Both will be in Fort Wayne. Antoine Davis returns for Detroit Mercy in 2022-23. The fifth-year guard is 266 points away from becoming the 11th player in NCAA history to score 3,000 points. Meanwhile Oakland is one of the Mastodons' longest-running rivals.
Road visits to Robert Morris (Dec. 29) and Youngstown State (Dec. 31) follow after Christmas. The 'Dons are then back at home against Green Bay (Jan. 5) and Milwaukee (Jan. 7). The Mastodons swept all eight games against these squads last season.
A battle with in-state rival IUPUI is set for Jan. 12 in the Circle City. Then new rival Cleveland State comes to the Summit City for a Monday night tilt on Jan. 16. It starts a stretch of games against the other three league semifinalists from last year. The 'Dons go to Wright State (Jan. 19) and Northern Kentucky (Jan. 21).
IUPUI makes a trip to Fort Wayne on Jan. 25 with a road game for the 'Dons at Cleveland State two days later.
Feb. 2 and Feb. 4 see the 'Dons go to Detroit Mercy and Oakland, respectively.
The 'Dons then close the regular season with four-of-six at home. Youngstown State (Feb. 10) and Robert Morris (Feb. 12) come to town first. Northern Kentucky (Feb. 17) and Wright State (Feb. 19) follow. The 'Dons finish with a road trip to America's Dairyland. First up is Milwaukee (Feb. 23), followed by Green Bay (Feb. 25).
Locations and times for home games will be announced at a later date.
