8/28/2022 5:45:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Mackenzie Evans led the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team to a 1-1 tie with Bellarmine on Sunday (Aug. 28) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
With no clock stoppages until the Mastodons' goal in the 77th minute, the matchup between former Great Lakes Valley Conference foes was relatively uneventful until that point.
The Mastodons got the first shot on goal of the game in the 16th minute when Zoe Greenhalge knocked a low roller to the middle of the goal. The 'Dons only had one more on-target strike in the first half, a similar shot from freshman Lauren Klusek.
After a nil-nil halftime, the 'Dons got two quick shots out of Morgan Reitano before an on-frame shot from Rylee Vruggink in minute 61.
Evans broke up the tie by feeding in a worm-burner to the left corner off a feed from Isabelle Wissel with 23 minutes left in the contest. It was Evans' third goal of the season and Wissel's first-career assist.
Bellarmine scored the equalizer in the minute 85 after a feed from a corner kick into the box.
The Mastodons led in shots 9-7, shots on goal 5-3 and corners 5-2. Reitano finished with three shots to lead the match.
With the draw, Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 1-1-2, while Bellarmine goes to 1-1-2. The Mastodons are back in action on Thursday (Sept. 1) when the Ball State Cardinals visit the Hefner Soccer Complex.
