Mastodons Blank Ball State 1-0
9/1/2022 10:08:00 PM | Women's Soccer
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – A goal by Kelsey Gallagher in the 11th minute stood the rest of the way for the Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team to earn a 1-0 shutout over MAC rival Ball State on Thursday (Sept. 1) evening at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Gallagher's goal was set up by a pass from Lizzie Haub from beyond midfield. It found Gallagher in space and Gallagher chased the ball down and finished just on the edge of the 18.
Samantha Castaneda picked up five saves for the Mastodons to help the 'Dons earn the shutout.
The 'Dons held a 6-4 edge in corner kicks. The 'Dons nearly made it 2-0, but Zoe Greenhalge's shot in the 87th minute hit the crossbar.
The Mastodons improve to 2-1-2 and have three straight positive results.
Combined with a tie at Toledo last week, this is the first time since 2003 the 'Dons have recorded two positive results against MAC teams in a season.
The Cardinals lived up to the first four letters of their nickname with three yellow cards in the final five minutes. Ball State falls to 0-3-2.
The 'Dons are at Southern Illinois on Sunday.
