Ousley and Mefford Shoot 70 in Final Round of Marshall Tournament

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Jadden Ousley and Hunter Mefford of the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team both shot 1-under 70 in the final round of the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invite on Tuesday (Sept. 13).
Ousley moved up 24 spots after his third round, finishing in a tie for 40th with a 74-75-70-219. On Tuesday, he turned in five birdies with three on the front nine. Mefford improved on day two as well, going 73-0-70-143. He had four birdies on 5, 8, 12 and 18.
Kasey Lilly led all Mastodons with an 11th-place finish with a 71-67-73-211. He dropped birdies on 1, 11 and 18. Nick Holder out-played his qualifying spot, shooting the second-best on the team from the No. 4 spot. Holder fired 69-72-76-217 to tie for 27th. He birdied the 423-yard fifth hole for the first time in his last round. Burke Pitz rounded out those competing for the team score, shooting 74-70-76-220. He birdied the 222-yard seventh hole to go with 11 pars in round three to tie for 47th.
Reece Compton competed as an individual, shooting 75-71-72-218 for 32nd place. His 218 was the fourth-best among players not playing for their respective team scores.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne finished the week with a 287-284-289-860 team score. They took sixth place, topping all three of the other Horizon League schools in the field: Northern Kentucky (7th - 861), Cleveland State (11th - 875) and Youngstown State (T-14th - 892). Appalachian State won the team trophy with an 845, while the host Thundering Herd had the individual medalist, Tyler Jones, shoot a 205.
The Mastodons will return to the course next week for the Valpo Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 19-20) in Chesterton, Indiana.
