Mastodons Sweep MAC Foe Eastern Michigan

CINCINNATI - Rachael Crucis recorded 23 digs to help the Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball team defeat Eastern Michigan 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 27-25) on Friday (Sept. 2) afternoon in a tournament hosted by Xavier.
The 23 digs tied her career high for digs in a three-set match. She helped the Mastodons out-dig the Eagles 62-48. Crucis had a match-high two aces to go with her impressive dig total.
Sidney Schiller finished with a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs. LonDynn Betts also reached double-digit digs with 11.Taya Haffner averaged 11 assists per set while adding three aces and seven digs. They helped the 'Dons out-hit the Eagles .200 to .153.
The 'Dons trailed the opening set until a 5-0 run put them up 17-14. The run came with Crucis serving. Three of the points came on blocks.
Eastern Michigan never seriously threatened in set two with their biggest scoring run being only two points.
The 'Dons finished off the Eagles in the third by denying a pair of Eastern Michigan set points. Molly Mirabelli put down a kill for point 27 and the match victory.
The 'Dons improve to 3-1. The Eagles are now 0-4. The 'Dons are back in action on Saturday against Virginia and Xavier.
