Taylor Norman Shoots 77 on Opening Day of Briar Ridge Invitational

SCHERERVILLE, Ind. - Taylor Norman of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team shot a team-best 77 on the opening day of the Briar Ridge Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 25).
Norman's 77 came thanks to a great finish. She was 2-under in her last six holes, with birdies coming on 14 and 15. She also birdied the 143-yard par-3 eighth hole. With 18 holes to play, Norman is in 18th place.
Anna Olafsdottir was two strokes back of Norman in 29th place. She started her round with an even first seven holes. She birdied hole six. After the turn, she birdied 16 to go with three pars. Adrienne Rohwedder was one stroke back of Olafsdottir, turning in 10 pars for an 80. She is in a tie for 37th. Arny Dagsdottir was another stroke back of Rohwedder. She had 12 pars, with five in a row to start the back nine. Her 81 put her in a tie for 41st.
Laura Caetano shot 82, but was even on the back nine. On the back, she had five pars and birdies on 15 and 16 to shoot an even 36. She is tied for 44th.
Natalie Papa and Luiza Caetano competed as individuals. Papa shot 78 and Caetano shot 81. Papa is tied for 21st and Caetano is tied for 41st with Dagsdottir.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne shot 317 and are tied for fifth place. They are ahead of a pair of Horizon League teams in Detroit Mercy (324) and Northern Kentucky (325). They are tied with Cleveland State and Northern Iowa. Morehead State is leading the field with an opening round of 300. Cleveland State's Mandie Ruminski, UIC's Megan tang and Green Bay's Isabelle Maleki are tied for the individual race, turning in 71 each.
The final round of the Briar Ridge Invitational will tee off in the morning on Monday (Sept. 26).
