Morrell’s Goal Leads Mastodons to 1-1 Draw at Detroit Mercy

DETROIT – Luke Morrell's 26th minute goal matched Detroit Mercy's one goal in Saturday (Oct. 14) night's Horizon League men's soccer match as the teams played to a 1-1 draw.
Morrell scored his second goal of the season off an assist from Soshi Fujioka. It's the seventh assist of the season for Fujioka and his fourth in the last six matches. His seven assists have him in fourth for single season assists in the NCAA Division I era for the 'Dons.
The Mastodons took their lead into halftime and into the second half, but Detroit Mercy found an equalizing goal in the 74th minute when Danny Salazar saved a Detroit Mercy penalty kick, but Drew Pierson scored off the rebound to tie the match at one.
Purdue Fort Wayne led the total shots 13-12 and shots on goal 5-4. Fujioka had a shot on goal in each half, but was turned away both times.
Danny Salazar stopped three shots in goal while Detroit's Quinn Tews had four saves.
The Mastodons move to 6-4-2 and 3-2-1 in Horizon League play. The point keeps the 'Dons toward the top of the league standings.
Detroit Mercy is now 3-7-3 and is also now 2-2-2 in league play.
