BARTONVILLE, Ill. - Through 36 holes of action at the Coyote Creek Classic, Olivia Jang is within striking distance of her first individual title as a freshman. Jang is in third, as are the Mastodons as a team, after two rounds on Saturday (Oct. 7).
Jang shot a 75-72-147 in her first two rounds of the weekend and is just three shots back of the leader, Grace Aromando. In round one, Jang had a 1-under front nine with birdies on holes three, six and seven. In her second time through the course, she started with a birdie and eagle. A nice way to start the round of course, but even better that Jang was one of just two student-athletes in the field to turn in a scorecard with an eagle on it. She was never over par for the rest of the round, as she found another birdie on hole 17 to protect herself from a bogey on hole five. Jang's best finish in a tournament to date is 20th.
Adrienne Rohwedder was the Mastodons' second-best on Saturday, shooting 78-77-155. She is in a tie for 14th. The senior had birdies on holes two, seven and 16 in the morning round, then had birdies on two and eight in her second time through. Her second round featured a bogey-free front nine.
Five shots behind Rohwedder, Hunar Mittal is tied for 24th after an opening day of 85-75-160. Mittal had a birdie fall on hole nine in round one. In round two, she had a much cleaner scorecard that included birdies on holes six and eight. She also had a stretch of eight pars in a row from holes nine to 16.
Anna Olafsdottir was two shots back of Mittal, turning in a 78-84-162. She had a birdie on hole one as her first round was coming to a close. This came after an opening 13 holes with 10 pars. In round two, she had birdies on holes nine and 11.
Lillie Cone shot 82-86-168 and is in a tie for 36th. In the morning, she had a birdie on her second hole of the day, the par-3 11th. She had a stretch of five pars on the front nine before wrapping up her first round. In round two, she had seven pars with a birdie on her closing hole.
The Mastodons' 313-308-621 is good for third after two rounds. They are ahead of the only other Horizon League school in the field, Green Bay, who shot 634. Host Bradley is leading the field with a 596.
The final round of the event will tee off on Sunday (Oct. 8) at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start.
