
Mastodon Men No. 57, Women No. 80 in First NET Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS – Purdue Fort Wayne is the only Horizon League school to have both basketball programs in the top-100 in the NET rankings, according to the first NET rankings of the season released by the NCAA on Monday (Dec. 4).
The Mastodon men are No. 57, the highest ranking in program history. The 'Dons are 8-1 overall and 2-0 in league play after a convincing 98-77 victory at Oakland. The 'Dons shot 66.7 percent from the field in the contest, second best ever against a Division I opponent in program history. Purdue Fort Wayne is first in the nation in turnover margin (8.4), seventh in turnovers forced per game (18.33) and eighth in 3-point percentage (40.7 percent). The 'Dons have five Player or Freshman of the Week honors in the Horizon League. Only Purdue (fifth), Indiana State (22nd) and Butler (38th) are ranked above the 'Dons among teams in the state of Indiana in the NET rankings.
The Mastodon women are No. 80, also the highest ranking in program history. The Mastodons are 6-2 and 2-0 in the Horizon League. The Mastodons have more combined Player and Freshman of the Week honors in the league than any other program with three: Shayla Sellers (Nov. 20), Amellia Bromenschenkel (Nov. 27) and Renna Schwieterman (Dec. 4). Purdue Fort Wayne is seventh in the nation with a 40.7 3-point shooting percentage. Notre Dame (fifth) and Indiana (28th) are the only two teams above Purdue Fort Wayne in the state of Indiana.
The 2023-24 basketball season marks the sixth season of the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET) rankings, which replaced the RPI prior to the 2018-19 season as the primary sorting tool for evaluating teams.
