
Dylan Kirkwood and Brooke Neal Win Titles at #HLTF Meet

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Purdue Fort Wayne's Dylan Kirkwood and Brooke Neal became Horizon League Champions on Saturday (May 6) during the second day of the league outdoor meet.
Kirkwood, a Northrop High School graduate, used a school-record 4965 points to win the heptathlon. Neal, a Granger, Indiana native, won the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 10:47.66, 10 seconds better than the second place finisher.
Kirkwood entered the day leading the heptathlon after Friday's events. Saturday saw Kirkwood take first in the long jump (5.53 meters), fourth in the 800 (2:28.67) and ninth in the javelin (26.61 meters). She is the first Mastodon women to win a multi title at a league meet. Sophia Buck also put together a strong performance in the heptathlon. Buck was fourth, taking second in the 100 hurdles and 800 meters.
Ali Sparks and Abbigail Garwood earned points for the 'Dons in the shot put. Sparks took seventh (12.31 meters) and Garwood was eighth (12.25 meters). Louiza Kruiswijk was eighth in the long jump (5.48 meters).
Three of the eight student-athletes advancing to the finals in the 100 hurdles on Sunday are Mastodons. Jesseca Hudson-Turpin will be the top seed after a 13.80 performance in the prelims on Saturday. Kirkwood and Jordan Yanders both ran a 14.58 to qualify.
Hudson-Turpin had Saturday's second-best time in the preliminaries of the 400 hurdles (1:02.27) to move on to the finals.
Katie Clark ran a time of 57.28 in the 400 preliminaries to qualify for the finals. She'll have a chance to defend her title from last season on Sunday.
The 'Dons are in third place with 50 points.
