Purdue Fort Wayne Earns Draw With Bellarmine 2-2

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The 2023 home opener for the Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team ended in a 2-2 draw with the Bellarmine Knights.
Both Purdue Fort Wayne goals came in the first half. Christian Leon used a header for his first goal of the season in the 21st minute. Soshi Fujioka and Ali Nasser assisted on the goal.
The Mastodons went up 2-0 with a tally in the 40th minute. Luke Morrell was in the right place at the right time as James Maxwell's attempt went off Morrell's leg only a few feet in front of the goal to direct the ball into the back of the net. Maxwell and Fujioka earned an assist on the goal.
It stayed 2-0 until the break. The Knights made it a one-goal game in the 49th minute on a goal by Brendan Schoemehl. The Knights didn't find the equalizer until the 88th minute. Jeffrey Cox scored, assisted by Brock Pope and Colin Elder.
The match saw the 'Dons hold a 9-8 edge in shots and a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Bellarmine is now 0-1-2. The 'Dons are now 0-2-1. Purdue Fort Wayne opens league play on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Milwaukee in a 4 p.m. ET start.
