BARBOURSVILLE, W.Va. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team set a new 54-hole record on Tuesday (Sept. 12) at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational, shooting a team score of 846.
The 846 broke the previous school record of 849, which came at the Fighting Irish Classic in 2017. The Mastodons' 278-279-289-846 (-6) was good for fourth place at the event. The 'Dons beat all four Horizon League schools in the tournament: Northern Kentucky (+2), Cleveland State (+8), Robert Morris (+19) and Youngstown State (+20).
Kasey Lilly finished in sixth place to earn the 17th top-10 of his career, extending his program record. He shot 71-66-69-206, just one shot back of the top-five. In round three, Lilly had an eagle on hole 11, with birdies on one, four, eight and 18. His 206 is the second-best individual 54-hole score in program history, second to his own mark of 204 from 2021.
Burke Pitz tied for 20th at the tournament, shooting 68-71-73-212. He had a round on Tuesday with 14 pars and a birdie on hole 10. He had a birdie on hole 10 in each of his three rounds.
Two shots back of Pitz, Nick Holder finished the week in a tie for 29th with a 68-72-74-214. Like Pitz, he had 14 pars in round three with a birdie on hole five. He was 3-for-3 on birdies on hole five.
Playing as an individual, AJ Agnew tied for 45th with a 79-71-69-219. In round three, he had birdies on holes two, four, six, eight and 10. He was also bogey-free on the back nine. Though a small sample size of six rounds, Agnew would have the best career scoring average in program history with his 72.33. He needs 25 rounds to qualify for that honor.
Hunter Mefford took 53rd with a score of 71-70-80-221. On Tuesday, he had birdies on holes one and eight.
Brock Reschly rounded out the lineup and had his score taken on Tuesday. He shot 74-77-73-224 to tie for 62nd. In round three, he had birdies on four and 11 to pair with 12 pars.
Belmont won the tournament with a team score of 828 (-28).
The Mastodons will be back in action on September 25-26 at the Virtues Intercollegiate in Nashport, Ohio.
