'Dons Too Much For IUPUI in Four-Set Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Panna Ratkai hit .429 with 17 kills and Ashby Willis hit .343 while adding 15 kills in Purdue Fort Wayne's 3-1 (25-17, 25-15, 18-25, 25-18) Horizon League victory at Arnie Ball Court on Saturday (Sept. 30) evening.
Ratkai added three aces in the match, helping the 'Dons to eight as a team. Taya Haffner had 32 assists while guiding a Mastodon offense, which out-hit the Jaguars .255 to .161.
The 'Dons closed the first set on a 8-0 run. Willis had four kills in the push that put the 'Dons up a set. Ratkai served on the run, which included an ace. The run was part of a 10-1 Mastodon push that saw the 'Dons erase a deficit and take control of the frame. Willis had six of her kills in the second set on just nine swings.
Purdue Fort Wayne never trailed in the second set after taking a 4-0 lead. The 'Dons limited the Jaguars to a 9-7-31 (.065) attack percentage. Ratkai had six kills on seven attempts.
Following a third set loss, the 'Dons left no doubt in the fourth. After an 8-8 start, the Mastodons jumped out ahead four points when Savanna Rogers served, which included an ace. Purdue Fort Wayne limited IUPUI to a .074 attack percentage in the frame. Jena Medearis had a kill for points 24 and 25 for the 'Dons, with a slide kill for the win.
The 'Dons improve to 6-11 (1-4 Horizon League). IUPUI falls to 6-10 (0-5 Horizon League). The 'Dons are back in action on Friday (Oct. 6) at home against Youngstown State.
