‘Dons Never Trail in Pink Out Win Over NKU

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Shayla Sellers recorded a game-high 20 points with six rebounds to help Purdue Fort Wayne to a 61-55 victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday (Jan. 27) afternoon at the Gates Sports Center. It was the 17th Annual Pink Out event with a check for $7,200 presented to the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer Research at halftime.
The 'Dons held NKU to 55 points, despite the Norse having scored 80 or more in three of their last four games.
Sellers scored 10 of her 20 points in the fourth quarter. NKU advanced to within a point in the final quarter twice, but both times Sellers answered with a basket.
The 'Dons had only six turnovers in the game and forced 17 Norse miscues.
NKU shot 30.2 percent (19-of-63) and the 'Dons finished at 32.9 percent (24-of-73). The 73 field goal attempts are the most for the 'Dons in a game against a Division I opponent this season.
Erin Woodson added 10 points. Amellia Bromenschenkel grabbed 12 boards to go with her nine points. NKU was led by Carter McCray, who scored 15 points and grabbed 20 rebounds. Jazzlyn Linbo had a season-high four blocks.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 14-8 (7-4 Horizon League), matching last season's win total with at least 10 games to play. The Norse fall to 4-15 (2-8 Horizon League). Purdue Fort Wayne is back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 31) against Cleveland State at the Gates Sports Center.
