Purdue Fort Wayne MVB Sweeps North Greenville

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team beat the visiting North Greenville Crusaders on Saturday night (Jan. 6) 25-18, 27-25, 25-23 on the Arnie Ball Court.
Jon Diedrich recorded a match-high 13 kills with seven in the opening set. He was a big part of a Mastodon attack that hit .526 in the opening frame. Mark Frazier ripped back-to-back aces to cap off a 5-1 run for the 'Dons that helped them capture the first set.
After falling behind early in the second, Purdue Fort Wayne put together a 6-1 run to take a 16-13 lead. North Greenville fought back to take a lead late in the set and brought up set point at 25-24. Frazier got his eighth kill of the second set as the first of three straight Mastodon points that won the second set. Frazier was 8-0-11 in the second, including a highlight play where he dug a deep ball, fell to the floor, then got back up to get the kill.
Diedrich had two kills early in the third set to lead the 'Dons to a 5-2 start. Axel Melendez Watts matched Diedrich's five kills in the third set, including three late in the frame to keep the 'Dons ahead and win the match.
Melendez Watts (12) and Frazier (11) joined Diedrich (13) with double-figure kills. Frazier had a match-best .400 hitting percentage, tallying his 11 kills on 20 attempts.
Andrej Polomac had another efficient outing in his second collegiate match. He finished with 36 assists, six digs and four blocks while pacing the team to a .313 hitting percentage.
The 'Dons totaled 8.5 blocks, their best in the young 2024 season. They held the 2022 NCAA Tournament participants to .194 hitting. Logan Keothavy led NGU with 11 kills.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 2-0 on the young season. North Greenville falls to 0-2. The Mastodons will hit the road for the first time next week when they visit Sacred Heart (Jan. 12) and NJIT (Jan. 13).
