FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team beat IU Indianapolis 3-0 on Wednesday (Oct. 30) behind the boot of Scarlett Webster.
Webster, who secured a brace, netted the game-winning goal in the 34th minute. She is the first Mastodon to net a pair of goals in the same game this season. Morgan Reitano was the last 'Don to score two, which came in August of last year.
The Mastodons dominated possession in the opening half, taking seven shots before IU Indy took its first. The 'Dons finished the game with a 17-5 edge in shots and a 7-1 advantage in on-target chances. The two goal-scorers, Gigi Ricciardi and Webster, both took six shots with two on-goal each. Lizzie Haub added two while playing 87 minutes to anchor the Mastodon back line.
In the first half, Webster's goal came on a smooth feed from Lauren Klusek from the left flank. Webster volleyed the pass with her left foot just over the out-stretched hand of IU Indy's goalkeeper. In the 62nd minute, Webster found the back of the net again, collecting her own rebounded shot and sending it deep between the sticks.
With cushion already in place, the Mastodons poured it on in the final minutes. Gigi Ricciardi scored her team-best fourth goal of the season in the final second of minute 85. Morgan Gallagher found Ricciardi for the third and final tally of the contest.
Jordan Imes recorded her sixth shutout of the season as the Mastodons notched their seventh. Both marks are second-best in single-season program history.
Purdue Fort Wayne improved to 9-9-1 and 4-6-0 in the Horizon League. The Mastodons' nine wins matches the most for the program since 2012.
IU Indianapolis fell to 5-10-3, 4-4-2.
The Mastodons await their postseason future depending on the result of Northern Kentucky vs. Wright State later tonight (Oct. 30). With a Wright State loss, the Mastodons would visit Detroit Mercy for the opening round of the Horizon League Championship.
