NKU Hands Mastodon Men’s Soccer First Home Loss of 2024

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky defeated the Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer team 3-1 on Friday (Nov. 1) at the Hefner Soccer Complex.
Northern Kentucky grabbed a 1-0 lead with a goal by Caleb Mundell in the 52nd minute. Parker Vasic and Diego Hoenderkamp assisted on the goal. The 'Dons tied it up just over five minutes later. Shane Anderson scored on a penalty kick for his seventh goal of the season. It came after an NKU hand ball in the box.
The Norse took the lead in the 64th minute. Nico Stoddart scored on a goal set up by a free kick. Caleb Franks and Wade Stinson assisted on the goal. NKU added insurance in the 75th minute when Jason Purks scored, assisted by Bennett Gerak.
The Norse finished with a 12-10 edge in shots. The 'Dons led 5-2 in corner kicks. Anderson had five shots for the 'Dons. Nathan Bessinger totaled two.
The four-goal second half came after a first 45 minutes which featured only one shot on goal for either squad.
Northern Kentucky is now 3-5-7 (2-2-4 Horizon League). The Mastodons fall to 6-6-2 (3-4-1 Horizon League). The 'Dons will close out the 2024 regular season on Tuesday (Nov. 5) at IU Indianapolis.
