DAYTON, Ohio - Amellia Bromenschenkel became the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball's Division I era rebounding leader on Saturday (Dec. 28) in a 76-49 win over Wright State.
Bromenschenkel grabbed six rebounds, pushing her career total to 632, passing Verea Bibbs (630, 2001-05). Bromenschenkel is now fourth on the all-time list, needing 31 to pass Robin Scott (1987-91).
The Mastodons have now won six in a row, which is the longest win streak for the 'Dons since the 2010-11 season, when they also won six consecutively.
The 'Dons never trailed in Saturday's contest, leading for all but 43 seconds.
Purdue Fort Wayne built up a 43-15 lead by the halftime break, in large part due to the Mastodons' work in the paint. The 'Dons had 22 paint points and 31 rebounds in the first 20 minutes. Jazzlyn Linbo had eight points and seven boards by the break.
The difference in the game came in the second quarter. The Mastodons out-scored the Raiders 33-5 over a 12-minute stretch (one minute on either side of the second quarter). Seven different 'Dons scored and Purdue Fort Wayne held Wright State to 1-for-14 from the field and forced the Raiders to cough up eight turnovers.
From there, the Mastodons cruised to the victory.
All 13 active Mastodons saw the floor for at least three minutes. Six Mastodons scored at least nine points: Bromenschenkel (16), Sydney Freeman (12), Lauren Ross (12), Linbo (10), Audra Emmerson (9) and Renna Schwieterman (9).
Purdue Fort Wayne finished 27-of-65 (41.5 percent) from the floor and held Wright State to 17-of-58 (29.3 percent). The 'Dons won the rebounding battle 46-37.
The Mastodons improve to 9-5 and 4-0 in Horizon League play. Wright State falls to 2-12, 0-4. Purdue Fort Wayne will be back in action on New Year's Day at the Gates Sports Center at 7 p.m.
