Know Your Foe
Youngstown State is 7-7 and 2-2 in the Horizon League. After starting 2-0 in the league, the Penguins lost their last two HL games to Detroit Mercy and IU Indy. YSU is coming off that 15-point loss at IU Indy, which saw Malia Magestro and Erica King score 13 points each. Jewell Watkins and Magestro are both averaging between 12 and 14 points per game.
The Series
Youngstown State leads the series 11-4, but Purdue Fort Wayne has won two of the last three, both in Fort Wayne. Last year, the two teams split, both winning by nine points at their home venues. In the game at the Gates Sports Center, Amellia Bromenschenkel scored 19 points.
Ross Has the Sauce
Through 14 games, Lauren Ross is shooting 51.3 percent from the floor, 52.1 percent from 3-point range and 93.1 percent from the line. If these percentages hold, she would be the first women's player and second player overall to ever shoot 50/50/90 since the 3-point line was added to college basketball. Salim Stoudamire (Arizona, 2004-05) is the only other college player to do hit all three marks for an entire season while meeting minimum requirements.
A Perfect Start to League Play
Purdue Fort Wayne is 4-0 to start Horizon League play this season. That is the best start to a league season since the Mastodons went 4-0 to start Summit League action in 2009-10.
Boards for Millie
Amellia Bromenschenkel has 632 rebounds in her career, which is the most among all Mastodons in the Division I era (2001-present). In the game at Wright State this season, she passed Verea Bibbs for the DI era record. She ranks fourth in the program's all-time rebound list, needing 31 more to pass Robin Scott for third.
Dynamic Duo
Through four Horizon League games, Lauren Ross and Amellia Bromenschenkel have been a fantastic one-two punch for the Mastodons. Ross is averaging 19.8 points and 6.0 rebounds per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the floor and 58.3 percent from three. Bromenschenkel is averaging 14.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game while shooting 51.1 percent from the floor and 50 percent from deep.
Scoring Machine
Lauren Ross is averaging 18.6 points per game this season, which is the third-most by any Mastodon since joining Division I in 2001. Amanda Hyde (22.3, 2013-14) and Johnna Lewis-Carlisle (19.5, 2007-08) are the top two.
