
First Place Finishes Abound in Track & Field Season Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track & field team began the 2024-25 season by winning 11 events in the Mastodon Opener on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
Louiza Kruiswijk started off the meet by beating her own school record in the long jump. Her personal best 5.88 meter leap topped the 5.86 meter jump set at last year's Bobcat Invitational & Multi.
Ali Sparks took the top spot in both of the meet's throwing events with a personal record mark of 17.51 meters in the weight throw and 13.65 meters in shot put.
Two other 'Dons set personal records on their way to first place finishes. Marissa Van De Weg ran a 1:39.37 in the 600 meters and Ellie Zagel jumped 1.62 meters in the high jump.
A couple of freshmen capitalized on their first collegiate opportunities, finding themselves leading the pack of their respective events. Lillian Hurd completed the 200 meters in 25.54 and Sanayah Ruffin finished with a 58.52 in the 400 meters.
The Purdue Fort Wayne 4x400 team won the only relay of the meet with a time of 4:00.24, highlighted by three freshman. Junior Van De Weg led the youthful group of Ruffin, Hurd and Amelie Mach.
Jordan Yanders completed the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.69, beating out the rest of the competition. Riley Tate led the 3000 meter pack, crossing the line first in 10:55.39. Aniya Young finished the 60 meters in 7.72 to take first.
Purdue Fort Wayne hosts the Mastodon Invitational and Multis on January 17-18 for Senior Day.
