FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's track and field program collected seven first place finishes during the Mastodon Invitational & Multis (Jan. 17-18), three of these coming from seniors.
The program honored their seniors prior to today's events, thanking and congratulating 10 Mastodons who dedicated their collegiate careers to the Purdue Fort Wayne program. Jordan Yanders, Louiza Kruiswijk, Marissa Van De Weg and Madeleine Wisniewski were the women's athletes honored before the meet.
Kruiswijk opened the meet with her second victory in the long jump this season, out of two meets. The senior leaped 5.73 meters on her final attempt.
Yanders completed the 60 meter hurdles preliminary round at fourth in the standings (9.51), yet she was able to turn up the speed during the final to secure the victory (8.85).
Van De Weg was the only runner to finish the 400 meter with a time under a minute (59.59) and beat out both heats as the only Mastodon to compete in the event.
Riley Tate finished the 3000 meter with a personal-best time of 10:02.26. The mark was 10 seconds quicker than the next opponent.
Freshman Lillian Hurd ran a personal best 25.15 in the 200 meter, beating her first mark of 25.54 at the Mastodon Opener (Dec. 7).
Ali Sparks collected wins in both throwing events of the day. She started the day off with a 17.07 meter mark in the weight throw on her fifth attempt and followed that performance up with a shot put toss of 13.59 meters.
The DMR squad of Lydia Carrell, Sanayah Ruffin, Bella Hodges and Ava Genovese beat out the other group of Mastodons with a time of 12:54.11.
The 'Dons will travel to Liberty to compete in the Brant Tolsma Invitational on January 24-25.
