Track & Field To Compete in Brant Tolsma Invitational

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne track & field programs are set to compete in the 5th annual Brant Tolsma Invitational (Jan. 23-25), hosted by Liberty.

Last Time Out for the Women
The Mastodon women collected seven event victories at the Mastodon Invitational & Multis (Jan. 17-18). Louiza Kruiswijk won her second long jump of the season, leaping 5.73 meters. Jordan Yanders beat out the competition with a time of 8.85 in the 60 meter hurdles. Marissa Van De Weg was the only runner in the meet to finish the 400 meter with a time under a minute (59.59). Riley Tate ran a personal best time of 10:02.26 in the 3000 meter, third-fastest time in the Horizon League. Lillian Hurd ran a personal best 25.15 in the 200 meter, second-fastest time in the Horizon League. Ali Sparks won both of the throwing events, throwing 17.07 meters in the weight throw and 13.59 meters in the shot put. The DMR squad of Lydia Carrell, Sanayah Ruffin, Bella Hodges and Ava Genovese beat out the other group of Mastodons with a time of 12:54.11.
Last Time Out for the Men
The Mastodon men won five events at the Mastodon Invitational & Multis (Jan. 17-18). Jonas Morris ran 22.05 in the 200 meter, a time that ranks third in the Horizon League. Ezra Lewellen sped his was past the competition in the 60 meter dash with a time of 6.84, the mark sits second in the Horizon League. Austin Hall ran 8:31.93 in the 3000 meter. Andrew Roman cleared 4.65 in the pole vault, now sitting at second in the Horizon League. The DMR squad of Nathan Mills, Austin Hall, Tyler Godwin and Colin Gasson (10:38.18) defeated the other two Mastodon DMR squads.
Brant Tolsma History
Brant Tolsma served as Liberty's track & field and cross country head coach for 34 years (1986-2020) before retiring following the 2020 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. He coached Liberty's teams to 116 conference championships and coached six NCAA Division I individual national champions. Tolsma was a 77-time conference coach of the year and coached Liberty athletes to 61 All-America honors.
Liberty's previous indoor track facility was named the Tolsma Indoor Track Center in his honor. The current indoor track oval was officially dedicated as the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track during the 2022 Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.
The inaugural Brant Tolsma Invitational took place on Feb. 5 & 6, 2021 during the first season of competition following Tolsma's retirement.
Eyes on the Prize
Purdue Fort Wayne will play host to the 2025 Horizon League Indoor Championships (March 1-2). The league championships will be held in the Lutheran Health Fieldhouse.
