
Mastodons Fall to Oakland in Final Minutes in #HLMBB Play

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's basketball team fell to the league-leading Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Wednesday (Feb. 14) 71-63 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum.
Oakland led 41-28 in the second half before the 'Dons opened up a 21-2 run. Quinton Morton-Robertson hit a 3-pointer to start the over seven-minute stretch in which Oakland only managed four shots. The 'Dons forced OU into six turnovers while committing none of their own. Morton-Robertson and Eric Mulder had six points each, Rasheed Bello chipped in four, Corey Hadnot II had three and Anthony Roberts had two. The highlight of the run had a 3-pointer from Morton-Robertson, a steal from Roberts on the following possession, then Mulder had a put-back layup on the other end. At the end of the extended run, the Mastodons were up four.
It was a 62-60 Oakland lead with under a minute left. Jack Gohlke put the game away thanks to a 3-pointer with 38 seconds left to put the Golden Grizzlies up 65-60.
Four 'Dons finished in double-figures. Bello had 15, Morton-Robertson had 14, Jalen Jackson had 11 and Mulder had 10. Bello finished 7-of-10 from the floor and 6-of-6 inside the arc.
Oakland was led by Gohlke, who finished with 23 points on 6-of-14 shooting from the 3-point line.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 16-10, 7-8 in the Horizon League. Oakland improves to 17-10, 12-4 in league and tied with Green Bay for the top spot. The Mastodons will hit the road next for a game at Detroit Mercy on Saturday (Feb. 17) at 1 p.m.
