
Mastodon Women's Basketball's Horizon League Championship Run Comes to an End

INDIANAPOLIS - Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball's run in the Barbasol Horizon League Championship came to an end on Monday (March 11) with a 64-55 loss to Green Bay.
The 'Dons and Phoenix went blow for blow throughout this contest, with Green Bay eventually pulling away late. Purdue Fort Wayne's 12 made 3-pointers kept them in close reach for most of the matchup. However, a late surge for the Phoenix allowed them to pull away.
The first five minutes of the first quarter only produced five total points, with Green Bay up 5-0. Audra Emmerson finally took the lid off the hoop for the 'Dons, hitting a much needed 3-pointer. The quarter ended with three total made 3-pointers for the Mastodons, up 11-9.
Purdue Fort Wayne continued to hit from deep in the first half, with seven shots from deep finding the bottom of the net. The game remained close through the second quarter, ending 30-27 with Green Bay in the lead.
The third quarter followed the pattern of the first half, becoming a back-and-forth fight. Following a Sydney Graber and-one, the 'Dons trailed 48-45.
Green Bay began the fourth quarter on a 13-3 run, extending their lead to nine, which ultimately stood as the difference in the contest.
Destinee Marshall ended with a career-high nine assists, setting the record for most assists by a Mastodon in a tournament game in the Division I era.
Purdue Fort Wayne made 12 3-pointers during the semifinal game, coming from four different 'Dons: Shayla Sellers (4), Amellia Bromenschenkel (4), Destinee Marshall (3) and Audra Emmerson (1). Bromenschenkel and Sellers finished with team-highs of 14 points. Marshall joined them in double-figures with 11. Sydney Graber had seven points off the bench.
Phoenix's Callie Genke led all players in scoring, with 16 points on three made 3-pointers.
Purdue Fort Wayne moves to 21-12 and awaits more postseason play possibilities. Green Bay improves to 25-6 and heads to the Barbasol Horizon League Basketball Championship final against Cleveland State.
