Purdue Fort Wayne MVB Defeats Lindenwood 3-0 for MIVA Win

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team picked up a MIVA win on Friday night (March 15), beating Lindenwood 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 29-27) on the Arnie Ball Court.
Purdue Fort Wayne's offense rolled in Friday's contest. The Mastodons hit .389 as a team for the match, including a .636 opening set. Their .389 clip is the best they've had against a MIVA team this season.
Lindenwood led 17-14 after an ace in set one, but the Mastodons responded with an 8-2 run that included an ace of their own from Bryce Walker to go up 21-19. From a 21-21 tie, Jon Diedrich had two kills and an ace on set point to give the 'Dons an early lead.
The visiting Lions were in the same spot in set two at 22-all, but the Mastodons finished the set on a 3-0 run with kills from Diedrich and Carlos Mercado and a block from Walker and Andrej Polomac. Mark Frazier had six of his 11 kills in set two.
The third set was as back-and-forth as any, as there was only one 3-0 run combined between the two teams. The Mastodons had three set points turned away by the Lions, but ultimately managed two in a row to take the final frame 29-27.
Diedrich had six kills in each set. In his first start of the season, Mercado had five kills and six digs while hitting .300. Walker was an efficient .455 on 11 swings. Polomac finished with 39 assists, pacing the Mastodons to their .389 hitting percentage.
Purdue Fort Wayne improves to 10-9, 4-6 MIVA. Lindenwood falls to 8-10, 3-6. The Mastodons will welcome No. 8 Ohio State on Saturday night (March 16) for another MIVA match.
