'Dons in Sixth After Opening Day of Daytona Beach Intercollegiate

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team is in sixth after one day at the Daytona Beach Intercollegiate on Monday (March 4).
The Mastodons were led by Hunter Mefford, who was even in round one. He had birdies on holes two, five and 14 to counteract bogies on seven, 12 and 17. He had nothing worse than a bogey in round one.
Kasey Lilly shot a 73 in his opening round. He had a relatively clean round of 16 pars, one birdie, and one double-bogey. He birdied the 392-yard sixth.
Freshman AJ Agnew was playing from the No. 5 spot, but finished with a 74 in round one. He had birdies on holes four and 14. Other than bogeys on seven, eight, 12 and 17, he recorded 12 pars.
Nick Holder was next for the 'Dons, shooting 81. He had a birdie on hole four, which came in his best stretch of 11 holes (3-13) in which he was even.
Burke Pitz shot 84 on the tough LPGA International course. He had a birdie on hole two to go with seven pars.
Brock Reschly played as an individual shooting 74 in round one. He had birdies on holes five and 10 to pair with 13 pars.
The final round of the tournament will fire off on Tuesday (March 4). The Mastodons are ahead of the two other Horizon League schools in the field: Oakland and Northern Kentucky.
