INDIANAPOLIS - Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball had four players earn All-Horizon League distinctions on Monday (March 4). The league announced that Amellia Bromenschenkel earned a spot on the All-League First Team, Shayla Sellers got on the All-League Third Team, and Renna Schwieterman and Erin Woodson were both selected to the All-Freshman Team.
Bromenschenkel is the first All-League First Team selection for the Mastodons since Amanda Hyde and Haley Seibert earned First Team All-Summit League in 2013-14. Bromenschenkel averaged 12.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in Horizon League play, ranking 12th and 10th in the league, respectively. She reached double-figures in the scoring column in all but three Horizon League contests. The senior guard became a 1,000-point scorer on February 24 and was the Horizon League Player of the Week on November 27. This is Bromenschenkel's second All-League honor, as she was a Third Team pick last year.
Sellers earned her third All-League honor with the Third Team nod. She was a Third Team honoree two seasons ago and was All-Defensive last year. Sellers is shooting a career-best 40.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc this season, paving the way to 11.5 points per contest, also a career-best. Over the final 10 games of the season, she was in double-figures eight times and was 30-of-61 (49.2 percent) from deep. This season, Sellers became the all-time leader in program history in games played, games started and minutes played, and moved into the top-10 in 3-pointers, steals, blocks and free throw percentage. She needs 21 more points to break into the top-10 in scoring. She was the Horizon League Player of the Week on November 20.
Schwieterman was named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week twice and earned a spot among the top-five freshmen in the league. The Jay County native averaged 6.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game in her freshman campaign, scoring in double-figures five times in Horizon League play. She scored 16 points off the bench against Horizon League runner-up Green Bay on February 28. Schwieterman had a 28-point effort against Great Lakes Christian, which was the most by a Mastodon freshman since 2016.
Woodson was the Horizon League Freshman of the Week three times, tying for the second-most in the league. She averaged 5.4 points and 2.9 rebounds per game in her first year as a Mastodon. She had three double-digit efforts against Horizon League competition this season, scoring 10 against Youngstown State and Northern Kentucky and 13 against Detroit Mercy. She scored 12 points off the bench in a neutral site game against No. 5 Iowa.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished third in the Horizon League standings, their highest league finish since the 2013-14 vintage finished third in the Summit League. The Mastodons compiled a 20-11 regular season record with a 13-7 mark in league play, both are high-water marks for the program since 2010-11. The Mastodons' next win will give them their most wins in a season since joining Division I in 2001. They earned a bye for the first round of the Barbasol Horizon League Championship and will welcome the highest remaining seed from the opening round to the Gates Sports Center for the quarterfinal round on Thursday (March 7) at 7 p.m.
