Mastodons Close in on First, Lilly Leads at Horizon League Championship

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team made up three shots on first-place Wright State on Sunday (April 21) with a team score of 291 (+3). Kasey Lilly is in sole possession of first place after his even round of 72.
After a bogey on his first hole, Lilly was 1-under for the rest of the day. He birdied the 340-yard 13th then had five pars in a row. After making the turn, he birdied hole one. He moved back to even with a bogey on three, then finished his round with six pars in a row. This included a par on nine, which he managed after going into the trees on the left side. He punched out and got up and down from 20 yards out. Lilly is seeking his first individual league championship.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne is four shots out of the lead. The Mastodons' 580 puts them nine shots ahead of the third-place team.
Brock Reschly was a big reason the Mastodons moved up a spot on the leaderboard. He shot a 4-under 68, which featured an eagle and three birdies. He bogeyed 11, but it was quickly erased with an eagle on 14. He stuck his second shot to four feet and drained the subsequent putt. Reschly finished bogey-free on the front with birdies on one, five and eight. He vaulted up to fifth on the individual leaderboard.
Burke Pitz shot 75 on Sunday thanks to 14 pars and a birdie on 16. This included a stretch of seven pars on the front nine. He is tied for 12th.
Hunter Mefford shot 78 and is in a tie for 20th. He opened his round with a birdie on hole 10, then managed another on 14. After the turn, he eagled hole one to move back to +1. He is in a tie for 19th with 18 to play.
Four shots back of Mefford, Nick Holder shot a 76 on Sunday. He was bogey-free for his first seven holes and found birdies on holes 11 and 13. He moved up eight spots to 31st.
The third and final round of the championship will fire off on Monday (April 22) with tee times starting at 1 p.m.
