Mastodons Shoot Up Leaderboard With Better Second and Third Rounds

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team had rounds of 298 and 304 on Sunday (April 7) to move up four spots in the Hoosier Collegiate leaderboard. They finished ninth as a team.
Kasey Lilly finished with a 76-76-74-226. In round two, he had 13 pars, including 10-of-11 holes from 15 to 7. In his final round, he opened with a birdie on the 590-yard ninth, then birdied 14 later on. He turned in 11 pars to take sole possession of 29th place.
Nick Holder shot 79-75-74-228 and tied for 32nd. His second round of 75 moved him up 20 spots on the leaderboard. He had birdies on 5 and 13, and had a stretch of five holes on the back nine without a bogey. Holder had birdies on the 535-yard 13th and the 375-yard fifth in round three. He added 11 pars.
Brock Reschly shot 75-73-82-230 to tie for 40th. His second round featured a start of six holes with only pars or better. He birdied 14. After making the turn, he birdied holes one and five, shooting 1-over on each nine. He had eight pars in round three to tie for 40th.
Hunter Mefford was much more consistent on Sunday, finishing with a score of 83-74-74-231. His second round featured 10 pars in his first 11 holes. After a bogey and double-bogey on three and four, he rallied for four more pars and a birdie to finish his round. His final time through Pfau saw him par five in a row in his last six holes. He turned in back-to-back birdies on holes 18 and one. He tied for 46th.
Burke Pitz shot 78-84-85-247. In his second round, he birdied the 375-yard fifth to go with six pars. He followed it up with five pars in round three.
As a team, the Mastodons tied for ninth with a total team score of 910.
This was Purdue Fort Wayne's last tournament of the spring before the Horizon League Championship. The 'Dons will have two weeks to prepare for the first round, which will fire off on Saturday, April 20 in Florida.
