
Mastodon Men’s Soccer Introduces 15 Newcomers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Purdue Fort Wayne men's soccer head coach Stephen Gorton has announced 15 newcomers for the 2024 campaign.
"With this group of incoming players, we have added both quality and experience," Gorton said. "We have addressed many needs and are excited about the impact they will make in our program."
Felipe Medina (Arlington, Texas / Arlington Bowie HS / Oral Roberts)
Medina (5'7", MF) was an All-Summit League Second Team selection at Oral Roberts in 2022. He played three total seasons for the Golden Eagles. Prior to that he played at Arlington Bowie High school where he was named the Dallas Morning News Offensive Player of the Year and District MVP.
Shane Anderson (Frisco, Texas / Frisco HS / Oral Roberts)
Anderson (5'9", F) scored nine goals and nine assists the last two seasons at Oral Roberts. He was an All-Summit League Second Team pick in 2022 as well as earning academic all-league honors.
Adrian Renteria (Grand Prairie, Texas / South Grand Prairie HS / Oral Roberts)
Renteria (5'11", D) played six games at Oral Roberts in 2022. He spent two seasons at NCAA Division II Harding in Searcy, Arkansas. In 2019 he was named to the D2CCA All-Central Region Second Team and All-Great American Conference Second Team. He was also selected to the 2019 GAC All-Tournament Team.
Andrew Hollenbach (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands HS / Dallas Baptist)
Hollenbach (6'4", D) played two seasons at NCAA Division II Dallas Baptist. He was a 2023 all-league third team pick, playing in all 19 games and helping the Patriots to a runner-up finish in the league. He scored one goal and had one assist in 2023. The defender had one assist in 2022, earning all-league freshman team accolades.
Karsten Ternes (Wauconda, Ill. / Wauconda HS)
Ternes (6'4", MF) was the 2023 Northern Lake County Conference Player of the Year. He recorded 17 goals and 10 assists, also earning all-state. He was named the Lake County News Sun Boys Soccer Player of the Year. He was a four-time all-conference and four-time all-sectional selection. He was twice named All-Area by the Daily Herald. Ternes also owns experience with FC 1974 Libertyville (2021-2024), FC Lake County (2017-2021) and SC Chicago Kickers (2011-2017).
Sep Habibi (Aurora, Colo. / Grandview HS / Dayton)
Habibi (6'2", GK) played five years at the academy level with MLS NXT club Real Colorado where he helped his team to three league titles. He spent the last two seasons in a reserve role for the Dayton Flyers.
Angel Rodriguez (Elgin, Ill. / Ignite Christian Academy / Northern Illinois)
Rodriguez (5'9", MF) played in 33 games with 11 starts in two seasons for Northern Illinois. He finished his two seasons with the Huskies with five goals and three assists. He had four goals last season, including tallies against Memphis (Aug. 27), at Marquette (Oct. 2), at Drake (Oct. 7) and against Bowling Green (Nov. 1). Played club soccer with both the Chicago Fire Academy and Raiders FC
Oscar Martinez (Round Lake, Ill. / Round Lake HS)
Martinez (5'9", MF) scored 25 goals with 23 assists in three seasons at Round Lake High School. He was twice named all-conference and all-sectional once.
Josh Jones (Chatham, Ill. / Glenwood HS / Southern Indiana)
Jones (6'6", GK) attended Southern Indiana last season but did not appear in a match. In high school, was a two-time all-conference member as a junior and senior as well as being named to the all-sectional and all-state semifinal teams as a senior at Glenwood High School. He led his team to a Class 2A State Runner Up finish as a senior
Trey Theard (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Carroll HS)
Theard (5'11", MF) was a second team all-state selection at Carroll High School in Fort Wayne. He was named the team captain as a senior. Theard played for Fort Wayne Sport Club (2017-23) and Fort Wayne United (2023-24).
Eason Haller (Mattawan, Mich. / Mattawan HS)
Haller (5'11", MF) recorded 45 goals and 42 assists in his prep career. He was an all-state honorable mention pick and an all-region selection. He was named all-league first team and all-district three times.
Bryan Aguirre (El Paso, Texas / Eastlake HS / Angelina College)
Aguirre (5'7", F/MF) scored 23 Goals in 25 games for Eastlake High School. He was named first team all-state, first team all-city and first team all-district. He played 2022 and 2023 for Angelina College where he played in 37 games with 28 starts, recording four goals and four assists.
Brandon Nunez (El Paso, Texas / Montwood HS / Western Texas College)
Nunez (6'0", MF) played in 27 games with 16 starts in two seasons at Western Texas College. He finished with a goal and one assist. He scored 26 goals with 35 assists in high school, earning All-District honors three times.
Isaac Machado (Destin, Florida / Fort Walton Beach HS / Oral Roberts)
Machado (5'9", D) played 28 games at NAIA Northwestern Ohio from 2019 to 2021. He transferred to Oral Roberts for the 2022 and 2023 seasons before joining the 'Dons for 2024.
Marcos Soria (Seville, Spain / IES Manuel de Falla HS / Western Texas College)
Soria (5'9", D) played two seasons for Western Texas College. He started 12 games in 2023 with three assists. He was a First Team NJCAA All Region V pick. In 2022 he started 11 games with one assist.
The 2024 Mastodon men's soccer season starts Aug. 22 at West Virginia. The 'Dons will play two exhibitions in Fort Wayne, Aug. 9 vs. Northern Illinois and Aug. 16 against Northwestern. The 'Dons are coming off a 2023 season where they advanced to the Horizon League Semifinals.
