Justin Hicks Leads Mastodons on Day One in West Lafayette

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Fort Wayne native Justin Hicks led the Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf team in the first two rounds of the Purdue Fall Invitational on Sunday (Sept. 22) with a score of 73-74-147.
Hicks was 2-under on the front nine of his morning round on the Kampen course at Purdue. He had birdies on holes three, four and eight and just one bogey on five. After starting with three pars on the back nine, finished round one with four more as he made the return to the back. He was 3-under in his first three holes in round two, turning in birdies on 14, 15 and 16. After making the turn, he had a birdie on four, which was a part of a six-hole bogey-free stretch. His 147 was good for 28th place.
Nick Holder shot 77-74-151 on day one. He had nothing worse than a bogey in his first round, carding 13 pars and five bogeys. In his second time through the course, Holder birdied the 534-yard fourth and 384-yard seventh. He finished his day with a par and three birdies in a row to shoot up the leaderboard.
Sophomore AJ Agnew opened the tournament with a birdie on the 608-yard 16th. Eight holes later, he birdied another par-5 just shy of 600 yards. He finished round with five pars in a row. He was better in round two, finding birdies on one, seven eight and 10. His day wrapped up with an 82-74-156.
Mastodon freshman Cody Coleman shot 72-88-160. In the morning round, Coleman was even on both sides. He had a birdie on two and seven to make up for a double-bogey on three and a birdie on 15 to counteract a bogey on 12. Coleman had 13 pars in the morning.
Brock Reschly had his second round taken for the team score, turning in 87-76-163. In round one, he had a stretch of eight holes of par or better, including birdies on six and eight. The sophomore was better in the afternoon, rattling off 11 holes of par or better to start the round. He birdied holes two and four.
As a team, the Mastodons shot 304-298-602 for 13th place.
Nick Bellush and Landon Smith competed in the Purdue Fall Individual, played on the Ackerman-Allen course adjacent to Kampen. Bellush shot 73-74-147 for 16th place and Smith shot 83-73-156 for 34th.
The final rounds of the Purdue Fall Invitational and Purdue Fall Individual will begin on Monday morning (Sept. 23).
