
Cross County Begins Season at Phoenix Open

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Mastodons are starting the 2024 season with sights on the Horizon League Championships, as they get an early look at the Phoenix Alumni Cross County Course on Friday (Sept. 6) where the league championships will be held.

Schools Entered: Green Bay, Northern Michigan, Purdue Fort Wayne, Milwaukee, St. Thomas, Michigan Tech, Bay College, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Oshkosh, St. Norbert, Bryant & Stratton and Winona State.
Preseason Poll: The Mastodon women were picked for third and the men were selected for fourth in the 2024 Horizon League Preseason Polls.
Women's Preview: The women's team is coming off their best finish in program history, placing second in the Horizon League Championships. Graduate student Brooke Neal was selected to the All-Horizon League First Team last season after a fourth place finish in the championships. Junior Riley Tate earned a place on All-Horizon League Second Team after finishing 10th. Mercedes Sarver, Haylee Hile and Faith Allen all turned in personal best times at the championships.
Women's Entries: Mercedes Sarver, Ava Genovese, Kynzlei Bassett, Lydia Carrell, Riley Tate, Bella Hodges, Faith Allen, Haylee Hile, Amanda Williams, Faith Norris, and Haley Sponaugle.
Men's Preview: The men's team finished fourth in last year's Horizon League Championships. Junior Harrison Niswander finished with the second-fastest 8K in school history, and Austin Hall finished just seconds behind Niswander.
Men's Entries: Kobe Milledge, Nathan Mills, Nicholas Mills, Austin Hall, Harrison Niswander, Jack Mills, Colten Gasson, Colin Gasson, Andrew Arnos, Jackson Marshall, Boden Genovese, Joshua Roper, Kye Milledge, Marcus Ridge, Tyler Godwin and Sam Dunnett.
Welcome to the League: The men's side features six freshman competing in their first collegiate event on Friday: Boden Genovese, Joshua Roper, Kye Milledge, Marcus Ridge, Tyler Godwin and Sam Dunnett. The women's team has three freshmen making their collegiate debuts with Amanda Williams, Faith Norris, and Haley Sponaugle.
