Women's Cross Country Places Second In First Meet of the Season

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Purdue Fort Wayne women's cross country placed second at the Phoenix Open 6K on Friday (Sept. 6), the best of three Horizon League schools in the event. Four Mastodons finished in the top 15.
Ava Genovese (22:24.8) placed fifth on this year's Horizon League Championship course. Lydia Carrell opened the season with a personal record (22:47.6) and finished 12th. Finishing just a place later was Riley Tate (22:47.7). Shortly after, Haylee Hile set a personal record (22:55.7) with a 15th place finish. Kynzlei Bassett (23:08.7) finished in 21st in her first meet as a 'Don.
Another Mastodon set a personal best at the Phoenix Open, Faith Allen (23:24.4) who placed 31st.
Three Mastodons made their collegiate debut on Friday. Faith Norris (24:10.5) took 67th, Amanda Williams (25:10.8) finished 109th and Haley Sponaugle (25:34.8) finished 118th.
Mercedes Sarver (23:59.8) earned 53rd and Bella Hodges (25:17.4) was 112th
Purdue Fort Wayne finished with 66 points, trailing only Winona State (39 points). Milwaukee's Anelise Egge (21:39.5) won the meet, while the Panthers finished fourth (92 points). Green Bay finished eighth (231 points).
The 'Dons will run next at the Mastodon Alumni Open (Sept. 20) at 6 p.m., Purdue Fort Wayne's only home meet of the season.
