Jang and Mittal in Top-10 After Day One at Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Olivia Jang and Hunar Mittal of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team are both seeking top-10 finishes at the Rocket Classic after a pair of 150s on Monday (Sept. 30).
As a team, the Mastodons are tied for third with an opening day of 611. They are tied with Ohio. Toledo leads the field with a two-round total of 601.
Jang's 77-73-150 was highlighted by four birdies in a five-hole stretch in the second round. She birdied nine, 10, 11 and 13 with a par on 12, then added a birdie on hole two. In the morning round, she had birdies on holes 10 and 13 with nine pars. She had nothing worse than a bogey all day.
Mittal shot 75-75-150 and is tied with Jang for seventh. Mittal had birdies on holes three and 15. She added 12 pars. Mittal had two birdies in round two on holes eight and 14. The sophomore had seven pars on the front nine in the afternoon round.
Natalie Papa turned in a 76-76-152 and is tied for 13th with 18 to play. She had back-to-back birdies on holes two and three and rattled off a five-hole stretch of only pars shortly after. Papa had a birdie on hole three in round two before parring seven holes in a row.
Lillian Gottman was the Mastodons' next best with an 80-79-159. In her first three holes, she birdied holes nine and 10, then parred nine holes later in the day. Gottman had 12 pars in round two.
Louise Ekesall was the last playing for the team score, shooting 81-80-161. In round one, the freshman had birdies on three, eight and 14 and added six pars. Ekesall had nine pars in the afternoon.
Lara Dommach is tied for 17th as an individual with a two-round total of 78-75-153. In the morning, she had a seven-hole stretch of only pars, then capped it off with a birdie on hole eight. Later on, she had birdies on eight and 16 with 11 pars.
The last round of the Rocket Classic will fire off on Tuesday morning (Oct. 1).
