Three Mastodons Secure Top-10 Finishes at Rocket Classic

PORT CLINTON, Ohio - Hunar Mittal, Olivia Jang and Natalie Papa all tied for seventh at the Rocket Classic on Tuesday (Oct. 1), leading the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team to a fourth-place finish.
As a team, the Mastodons turned in a three-round total of 915, which is a top-five 54-hole mark in program history.
The trio of Mastodons shot 226. Mittal and Jang had third rounds of 76, while Papa shot a 2-over 74 in her last of the week. Mittal had a stretch of seven pars in a row to start her day. After a double-bogey on eight, she parred four more. She had a birdie on 15 to make up for a 3-over stretch on the two previous holes, then finished with three more pars. Jang birdied hole one and added 13 pars, including a stretch of six in a row on the back nine. Papa had four birdies on Tuesday, finding them on holes two, seven, 12 and 16. The junior had nothing worse than a bogey and had a stretch of six bogey-free holes on the back nine.
Lillian Gottman finished in 33rd place with a two-day total of 237. She had a birdie on hole eight to highlight her third round. She had seven pars on the back nine to finish with a 78. Louise Ekesall turned in a 244 for 41st place. She had 10 pars on Tuesday.
Lara Dommach competed as an individual, carding a 233 to tie for 24th, which is the best of her freshman season so far.
The Mastodons finished ahead of the two Horizon League schools in the field, Green Bay and Detroit Mercy, by 13 and 47 strokes, respectively.
Purdue Fort Wayne will return to the course on October 7-8 at the Red Flash Invitational in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
