Jang, Mastodons in the Hunt For Red Flash Invitational Titles

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - Olivia Jang and the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team are within striking distance of individual wins at the Red Flash Invitational after 18 holes on Monday (Oct. 7). Jang and the team are both two shots off the lead.
The Mastodons shot 317 as a group, which is tied for second. They are tied with Bucknell and just two shots behind Stonehill, which turned in a four-player total of 315.
Jang was the Mastodons' best and one of the best in the field in the opening 18 holes. After a bogey to start, she eagled hole two and birdied hole three. After holes four and five, she had just one hole of anything worse than a par, and it was just a bogey. She birdied hole 11 in the 13-hole stretch of even golf. She finished her day with a 75, two off the leader: Stonehill's Helen Brodahl.
A few shots back of Jang, Hunar Mittal shot 80 and is in a tie with Lara Dommach for 11th. Mittal's round featured 11 pars. In her second tournament in the lineup, the freshman Dommach turned in a scorecard with a birdie on 13 and eight pars.
Lillian Gottman was two shots back of Mittal and Dommach, finishing with an 82. She birdied the 400-yard par-5 second hole and added eight pars to tie for 21st with 18 to play.
Natalie Papa shot 85 to tie for 30th. Her round was highlighted by a birdie on the 445-yard ninth. She had seven pars to go with the birdie.
The final round of the Red Flash Invitational will fire off on Tuesday morning (Oct. 8).
