FORT WAYNE, Ind. – ESPNU's cameras are coming to Fort Wayne. Purdue Fort Wayne's men's basketball game scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 30 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum against Cleveland State has been selected to air live on ESPNU.
To accommodate the broadcast the game will now start at 9 p.m. ET. The game will also air on 1380 AM The Fan in Fort Wayne.
This will be Purdue Fort Wayne's first home game on the ESPN family of networks since the 'Dons defeated Oakland 79-73 in overtime on Dec. 9, 2022 on ESPNU. The last time the 'Dons played on an ESPN network was a 63-58 win at Northern Kentucky on Jan. 25, 2024 on ESPNU.
A total of eight Horizon League matchups will air on ESPN linear networks including five during the regular season. All League regular season games during the 2024-25 season will be "wildcard" selections to ensure the best matchups possible.
Cleveland State and Purdue Fort Wayne have produced some epic contests in their short time in the Horizon League together.
In 2022 the Mastodons defeated Cleveland State in triple overtime at home thanks to a last second 3-pointer by Damian Chong Qui to force the first overtime. The win helped ensure Cleveland State and Purdue Fort Wayne shared the regular title that season.
In 2020-21 COVID scheduling saw the 'Dons and Vikings play five times, including a three overtime contest in the Horizon League Championship Quarterfinals. While the 'Dons came out on the short end of the contest it is a game that featured a shot by Jarred Godfrey with six seconds left to force a second overtime.
This season, the Vikings sit atop the Horizon League standings at 7-1. The Mastodons are right behind at 7-2. The Vikings and Mastodons are the only two teams in the league with seven conference wins.
