'Dons Defeat #HLMBB's Final Unbeaten

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Youngstown State entered the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum on Saturday (Jan. 4) as the Horizon League's only undefeated team in league play. They left with their first loss of the season. Purdue Fort Wayne led nearly wire-to-wire in a 90-81 victory over the Penguins.
The Mastodons led by as many as 20 points in the second half, grabbing a 78-58 advantage with 6:33 left on a Jalen Jackson layup. It came on a pretty bounce pass from Quinton Morton-Robertson in transition.
Jackson filled up the box score with 25 points on seven assists, five rebounds and two steals. He was 9-of-14 from the floor. Jackson had help from all over the Mastodon lineup. Chandler Cuthrell contributed a career-high 19 points off the bench. Rasheed Bello totaled 17 points with five boards and four assists. Morton-Robertson finished two points shy of 1,000 for his career by adding 12 points.
The Mastodons led 41-29 at the break with Jackson notching 14 in the opening half. Youngstown State had only 10 field goals in the first half and recorded zero offensive boards in the first 20 minutes.
Youngstown State shot 31-of-65 (47.7 percent) in the contest while committing 14 turnovers. The 'Dons shot 52.3 percent (34-of-65) with only nine turnovers. Six Mastodons combined to make 11 total 3-pointers.
Youngstown State falls to 10-6 (5-1 Horizon). The 'Dons are now 11-6 (4-2 Horizon). Another big test awaits on Wednesday (Jan. 8) when Milwaukee comes to town. The Panthers are one of four one-loss teams in the Horizon League and were co-favorites with the 'Dons in the preseason poll.
