FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Ella Riggs matched the Purdue Fort Wayne women's basketball field goal percentage record on Friday (Dec. 19) with a 10-for-11 performance in a 104-31 victory over NAIA foe Aquinas.
While Riggs matched the record, Alana Nelson also had just one miss on her 11 attempts, which put her in a tie for the third-best single-game performance of all time. Nelson finished 9-for-10 and 6-for-7 from the 3-point line, the latter of which is fourth-best in Mastodon history. Riggs set a new career-high with 24 points and Nelson matched her season-high with 26.
The Mastodons never trailed against the Saints, putting together a 35-9 first quarter. Their 35 points were the most in a quarter since putting up 39 against Great Lakes Christian in 2023. The Mastodons were at their best in the fourth quarter when they went on a 21-0 scoring run that lasted 6:27 and saw eight different players score.
The 104 points are the 12th-most a Mastodon team has scored in a game and Friday marked the sixth time in the Maria Marchesano era her team scored 100 or more. The Mastodons hit 14 3-pointers, just one shy of a top-10 single-game performance. The 'Dons shot 59.2 percent (42-of-71) from the floor, taking 10th on the program's all-time list for field goal percentage.
The Mastodons forced 28 turnovers and converted them into 44 points. The 'Dons also dominated in the paint, scoring 56 there. The Mastodon bench scored 46 of the 104.
Purdue Fort Wayne held Aquinas to just 21.2 percent from the floor and 14.3 percent from 3-point land.
Jordan Reid rounded out those in double-figures with 14 points, while adding five steals and three rebounds. Nine of the 10 players that played recorded at least three points. Freshman Avery Wagner had seven points and seven rebounds. Hillary Offing had seven rebounds and six points.
Purdue Fort Wayne moved to 9-4 and has won its last five in a row. Aquinas remained 6-6 after playing Friday's game as an exhibition. The Mastodons are now 7-0 at home this season. They will look to defend that perfect record when Northern Kentucky comes to town for a December 29 resumption of Horizon League action.
