Mastodons Fall to No. 15 Ohio State

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team fell to No. 15 Ohio State in three sets (25-19, 26-24, 25-21) on Monday (Feb. 10) evening.
The Buckeyes handled business on the Arnie Ball court, not giving up leads in neither the first or third set. Ohio State held the largest lead of the set at 18-8, punching in three separate 3-0 runs. The 'Dons minimized the gap with a 5-0 run off Peter Soczewka's serving. The Buckeyes were able to fend off the Mastodon surge, finishing the set 25-19. Kaden Fosdick led the team with five kills iat the break on a .714 clip.
Purdue Fort Wayne took their only lead of the match early in the second set, maintaining it until the teams met at 11-11. Ohio State took off on a 5-0 run to take control of the set. The 'Dons strung together a late 3-0 run to tie the game at 23-23. Logan Muir put down his seventh kill in the second set to halt the Buckeyes' set point, but were unable to take the lead back.
Ohio State jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the third set after Ohio State's Shane Wetzel strung together three consecutive service aces.The Buckeyes extended that lead to six at several points throughout the set, finding themselves up late at 24-18. The Mastodons put together a late 3-0 run to close the gap to 24-21 before dropping the third set. Ohio State hit a match-high .417 in the set.
Wetzel led all hitters with 13 kills on the match, hitting .588.
Fosdick (10) was the only Mastodon to reach double-digit kills in the match. Andrej Polomac finished with 21 assists.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 5-4, 0-2 in MIVA play. Ohio State moves to 4-6, 1-1 in the MIVA. The Mastodons will host Queens on the Arnie Ball Court on Thursday (Feb. 13) and Friday (Feb. 14).
