Mastodons Drop Three-Setter Against Flyers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Purdue Fort Wayne men's volleyball team lost in straight sets (25-14, 25-20, 25-19) to Lewis on Thursday (April 3).
The first set was owned by the Flyers, jumping out to an 8-2 lead after a 5-0 run. Lewis tacked on six straight points later in the set to hold an 11 point lead. The Flyers held that margin through the set, taking the first 25-14.
The Mastodons challenged the Flyers to open the second set, controlling the lead at 8-7. Lewis pulled off a 5-1 surge that moved them to a 12-9 score. The Flyers maintained the lead, fending off Logan Muir's seven kills in the set, until a 25-20 second set conclusion. Lewis hit a match-high .600 hitting percentage in the frame.
Purdue Fort Wayne hung with Lewis towards the beginning of the final set. Not long after, the Flyers began to pull away with a 4-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. Lewis held onto that six point lead through the conclusion of the match, taking the third 25-19.
Muir led the match with 17 kills on a .481 clip.
The Flyers hit .507 in the match, compared to the Mastodons' .155.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 10-12, 3-10 in MIVA play. Lewis jumps to 20-7, 10-4 in the MIVA. The 'Dons will host No. 14 Ball State on Saturday (April 5) for the Mastodons' senior night.
