LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lillian Gottman of the Purdue Fort Wayne women's golf team shot a team-best in the Mastodons' season-opening round on Friday (Sept. 5) with a 4-over 74.
As a team, Purdue Fort Wayne finished round one in fourth place with a total score of 304, just seven shots off the lead. The host Bucknell A squad led the way with a 297. The Mastodons are just two shots back of Holy Cross for second.
Gottman had nothing worse than a bogey in the first round of her junior season. She had two bogeys to start, but counteracted that with birdies on the 345-yard sixth and the 486-yard ninth. On the back nine, she parred 10, 13, 14, 15 and 17 after the even front nine to finish 4-over. She is in fifth place after 18 holes.
Olivia Jang was one shot back of Gottman with a 75 on Friday for 12th place. Jang was 3-over on the front and 2-over on the back. After making the turn, she birdied the 355-yard 11th and the 376-yard 18th.
In her first collegiate round, Emily Gottman shot a 76, good enough for 15th place. She had a steady start, carding just one bogey in the first seven holes. On the back she had four pars and a birdie on 15, the only Mastodon to do so.
Hunar Mittal turned in a 79 to tie for 35th place. She had six pars on the front and two on the back, with two birdies after making the turn. She had birdies on 11 and 14.
Louise Ekesall rounded out those playing for the team score with an 84. Natalie Papa played as an individual and also shot an 84. They are tied for 69th place.
