Mastodons Come Up Short Against Panthers

CHARLESTON, Ill. - The Purdue Fort Wayne women's soccer team fell 3-0 on the road at Eastern Illinois on Sunday (Aug. 30).
The Mastodons came out strong, recording three shots and two corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes of Sunday's match. Despite Eastern Illinois scoring twice in the first half, Purdue Fort Wayne and the Panthers were even in shots, 6-6, and corner kicks, 2-2, through the opening 45 minutes.
Bella Masse and Mary McArdle led the Mastodons with two shots each, while McArdle also recorded Purdue Fort Wayne's lone shot on goal.
The Mastodons earned two more corner kicks in the second half, matching Eastern Illinois with four corners apiece for the match. The Panthers added their final goal in the 75th minute.
Purdue Fort Wayne falls to 0-3-1 on the season, while Eastern Illinois improves to 2-1-2.
The Mastodons return to the Hefner Soccer Complex to host Valparaiso for the department's annual Party at the Pitch on Thursday (Sept. 3). There will be food trucks, giveaways and a beer tent (21+). The event is presented by Army ROTC and hosted by the Student Activities Board.
