TOLEDO, Ohio - Purdue Fort Wayne women's volleyball dropped a non-league matchup on Tuesday night (Sept. 1) to Toledo 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 25-21).
The Rockets jumped out to a 5-0 start in the opening set and never trailed from there. The 'Dons strung together three kills in a row from Riley Rosneck, Miona Dimitric and Lili Smith later in the set, but UT converted three of the last four points to go up 1-0.
The Mastodons built up a 10-7 lead in set two thanks to five kills and a block, but Toledo had a four-point run before a service error to meet at 11. Two more four-point runs ultimately gave the Rockets the 2-0 lead.
The third set was the tightest of the night, despite the Rockets going up 7-1. Back-to-back kills from Rosneck brought the 'Dons back within one at 12-11, but UT pulled away again with a few mini-runs.
Dimitric racked up a career-high 11 digs to go with five kills. Becky Barrett had 20 digs, a match-high. Ava Siefke had a match-high 12 kills for Toledo. The Rockets hit .333, with Siefke's .458 leading the way.
The Mastodons fell to 2-2, while Toledo stayed perfect at 4-0. The 'Dons will head to Miami (OH) for the Miami/Best Western Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Sept. 4-5).
