Mastodon Men's Golf Takes Runner-Up, Shatter 54-Hole Record

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - The three-year old Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf 54-hole record was shattered on Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 15) when the Mastodons shot 840 (-12) at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational.
The previous record was an 846, which was set in 2023 and matched twice since. With an 840 on Tuesday, the six-stroke margin is the largest a 54-hole record has been beaten by in Mastodon history since 2007.
The Mastodons were just one stroke shy of claiming the team trophy at Marshall's tournament. Bellarmine managed a team score of 839 (-13). Purdue Fort Wayne as a team combined for 58 birdies, the most in the field.
Nick Bellush picked up the first top-10 finish of his career in a big way, shooting 71-69-67-207 (-6) to tie for fourth. That 207 is Bellush's lowest 54-hole score of his career, topping his previous best by 10 strokes. That mark also matches the fifth-best in program history. His 4-under performance on Tuesday featured six birdies with three on each side. He was a combined 9-under on the back nine over three rounds. Over his last eight holes, he was 2-under thanks to birdies on 18 and two.
Brock Reschly also turned in a career-low performance of 208, which ties for seventh-best in program history. His final round of 72 started with six birdies in a row before back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11. He added a birdie on 16, which came in the middle of a 1-under stretch over six holes. Reschly finished in sixth place, marking his fifth top-10 in his career.
AJ Agnew shot a career-best 209 with a final round of 73 to take seventh, his first top-10 since his freshman season. His 209 also cracks the program's top-10 list. His 73 in round three came by way of four birdies and nine pars. He birdied holes one, three, 11 and 17.
Landon Smith tied for 41st with a 75-73-69-217. He was 4-under over his first 11 holes thanks to birdies on eight, 11, 15 and 17. After a bogey on 18, he birdied hole one, eventually finishing his day at 2-under. Brady Moore, who played as an individual, matched Smith at 217 with a bogey-free 69. He birdied holes 10 and 17 and parred the rest.
Justin Hicks shot 75-73-72-220, finishing on a strong note to tie for 61st. The junior was 3-under over his last 10 holes with birdies on one, three and six.
Purdue Fort Wayne will take the course again on September 26 at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational in Muncie, Indiana.
