'Dons in the Mix at Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational After 36 Holes

MUNCIE, Ind. - Purdue Fort Wayne men's golf is in fifth place after 36 holes at the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational on Saturday (Sept. 26).
The Mastodons were steady, taking nothing worse than a 73 for the team score. They shot 290-283-573 as a team, just six strokes back of reigning Horizon League champion Wright State.
Julian Dugan led the way for the Mastodons with a 73-68-141. In round one, the junior managed a seven-hole stretch in which he was 1-under thanks to a birdie on hole nine followed by six pars to start the back. He was also even over his last five holes with birdies on one and five. In the afternoon, Dugan started with back-to-back birdies on six and seven, then moved to 4-under with birdies on 12 and 14. After moving back to even over the next six, he birdied three and four and parred five to finish his second 18 a 2-under. Dugan is in a tie for 14th with 18 to play.
AJ Agnew, Gavin Hare and Brock Reschly all shot 144, and are tied for 28th, to round out the team score.
Agnew shot 73-71 with three birdies in his first round, coming on holes three, four and 12. In round two, he birdied his opening hole on six, then went on to birdie nine, 17 and four. That last birdie came in a stretch of five holes of par or better to end the day.
In his first action as a Mastodon, Hare shot 73-71 as well. He parred his first three, then found a birdie on 15 later on. He also had success on the front nine, getting birdies to fall on four and five, setting up a bogey-free 33. In the afternoon round, Hare had birdies on four, nine, 12, 13 and 15, setting up a 1-under final six holes.
Reschly shot 71-73 thanks to 10 birdies with five in each round. In the morning, he birdied holes two, three, seven, nine and 13. In the afternoon, he birdied nine before finding three birdies in a row on 14, 15 and 16. He finished his day on a high note with a birdie on hole four, his finishing hole.
Nick Bellush turned in a 73-73-146 and is in a tie for 50th. He birdied holes four, 11 and 17 in round one and 2 and 17 in round two. He had nothing worse than a bogey all day, the only 'Don to do so.
Brady Moore played as an individual, shooting 70-77-147. He is in 57th place.
Butler is leading the field at 555, with the host Ball State Cardinals two shots back at 557. The 'Dons were better than three Horizon League teams: IU Indy (578), Northern Kentucky (580) and Cleveland State (587).
The final round of the event will begin tomorrow morning (Sunday, Sept. 27).
