
Mastodons Dominate Cardinals

Fort Wayne, IN - IPFW hosted the Ball State Cardinals on Tuesday night for a non-conference women's volleyball match at the Gates Center. The Mastodons took to the court and dominated, defeating the Cardinals in three games.
IPFW defeated Ball State, 30-22, 30-18, 30-9.
Game one saw the 'Dons run off to a 6-1 lead at the start. The 'Dons continued to hold a five point lead until they were able to stretch their lead at 14-8. The Cardinals moved to within two points at the 15-13 mark and continued to chip away at the 'Dons lead. The Cardinals tied the game up at 17, and then the 'Dons went on a 4-0 run to go ahead, 21-17. From there IPFW held the Cardinals at bay, 30-22.
The Mastodons made the start of game two look like a repeat of game one. IPFW went ahead 10-2 and continued to hold a strong lead, taking it to 10 points at 16-6. The Cardinals were never able to rebound as the Mastodons took game two, 30-18.
Game three started to look a little different at the start, the Cardinals kept it close the nine points, only allowing IPFW to go ahead by three, 6-3. The Mastodons made good use of their strong serving with multiple point serving rotations throughout game three. IPFW never allowed the Cardinals to break into double-digits in game three, taking the match with a 30-9 final score for game three.
The Mastodons dominated in service aces with 11 to Ball State's one. IPFW just edged the Cardinals in blocks with six team blocks to BSU's five.
IPFW was led by Rebekah Roehm with nine kills on 21 swings. She hit a .381 and added three service aces and six digs.
Jessica Miller had seven kills and Mayara Schlindwein had six kills and three service aces.
Shannon Reuter dished out 13 assists and three block assists. Taryn Parker matched Reuter with three block assists.
Peachy Jankowski dug 10 balls along with three service aces.
Cynara Martins was also strong in the back row with 10 digs. She added two block assists and four kills.
The Cardinals were led by Julie Breivogel with eight kills. Angie Parrell had 19 assists while Alyssa Rio had 12 digs.
The Mastodons (16-9, 9-3 Summit League) will now prepare for a pair of Summit League conference matches this weekend. On Friday, November 2nd the 'Dons will host the Centenary College Ladies. The 'Dons previously defeated the Ladies on September 29th, 3-0.
On Saturday, November 3rd the 'Dons will host the Golden Eagles of Oral Roberts. The Golden Eagles were victorious in the last meeting, 3-0, on September 28th.
Both matches start at 7 PM in the Gates Center.
