
Tough First-Half Spells Doom For Men's Soccer

Valparaiso, IN - The Valparaiso Crusaders scored three-times in the first half on the way to a, 3-0 shutout of the Mastodons on Friday afternoon in Valparaiso, Indiana.
Valparaiso (1-2-0) opened the scoring in the 11th minute of play as Tyler Pagano netted his first goal of the season. Pagano collected a loose ball in the corner of the box and banged a shot home.
The Crusaders took at 2-0 lead in the 19th minute as IPFW goal keeper Josh Howell made a tough save on a shot by Yuuki Guzzman, but couldn't control the rebound. Oscar Lomeli was in the right spot and tallied his first of the season.
At the 36:54 mark, Guzman finally got his, with a shot from about 18 yards out on the right side.
IPFW (1-2-0) kept the Crusaders off the board in the second half, but managed only three shots on goal. All were turned aside by VU keeper Sean McGinnis.
Howell stopped five shots as the 'Dons fell for the second time in as many games.
IPFW will return to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Kalamazoo, Michigan for a 3:00 p.m. contest with Western Michigan.
